What is a Birth Debrief?

What happens in a Session?

What is the Goal?

Birth debrief sessions offer a compassionate space to process and make sense of your birth experience - whether it was recent or many years ago. Birth can bring up a wide range of emotions, from pride and relief to shock, sadness, or confusion. Sometimes, aspects of the birth experience - medical interventions, feeling unheard, loss of control, or unexpected outcomes - can leave lasting emotional imprints that are difficult to talk about.

A birth debrief provides the opportunity to revisit your story gently and safely, with someone who understands the complexity of birth and the emotional impact it can have on identity, relationships, and wellbeing.

In these sessions, I work collaboratively with you to unpack what happened, explore how it has affected your mind and body, and help you connect the dots between your experience and how you feel today. We might look at your memories of the event, the meaning they hold, and the emotions that arise when you think about them.

The goal isn’t to assign blame or to re-live distress, but to bring understanding, compassion, and coherence to your story. We aim to help your nervous system settle and your mind regain a sense of safety. Many people describe feeling lighter, more grounded, and more connected to themselves after debriefing their birth experience.

Whether you are preparing for another pregnancy, supporting your recovery, or simply seeking peace with what happened, a birth debrief session can be an important step toward emotional healing and self-trust.
